Professor S. D. Muni is Professor Emeritus at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He is also a member of the Executive Council of the Institute for Defence and Strategic Analyses, New Delhi. He has taught and conducted/guided research at JNU, New Delhi; National University of Singapore, Singapore; Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; and Rajasthan University, Jaipur. served as India’s Special Envoy to the Southeast Asian countries on United Nations (UN) Security Council Reforms (2005) and represented India’s Minister of External Affairs at the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Paris Peace Conference, held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He also served as India’s Ambassador to Lao People’s Democratic Republic (1997-99). He was the founding Executive Member of the Regional Centre of Strategic Studies, Colombo, Sri Lanka. In 2005, he was bestowed with the ‘Sri Lanka Ratna’ award, Sri Lanka’s highest national honour for a foreign national. He was nominated to the first-ever constituted National Security Advisory Board of India in 1990–1991. Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), honoured him in 2014 with the ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ in South and Southeast Asian Studies.
