Dr Apila Sangtam
Honorary Adjunct Fellow at the National Maritime Foundation
Dr Apila Sangtam is currently an Honorary Adjunct Fellow at the National Maritime Foundation. Dr Sangtam’s expertise extends beyond academia into the realm of policy analysis. As an ‘Associate Fellow’ and the ‘Head of the ASEAN Cluster’ at the NMF in New Delhi—a knowledge partner of the Indian Navy—she has led critical research focused upon the manner in which the policies and geostrategies of ASEAN and its member States impact (and are likely to impact) India’s own maritime policies and geostrategies across the Indo-Pacific. Her research area includes maritime security, maritime connectivity, India-Vietnam relations, South China Sea, India -US relations and the Indo-Pacific. She has undertaken detailed and original research, expressed her research arguments and findings in written form through numerous published articles and papers, and her skill in advocating research across a variety of convening-platforms and forums including national and international conferences, symposiums, workshops, and seminars. She holds a doctorate from the Centre for Indo-Pacific Studies, School of International Relations, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. In addition to her advanced research, Dr Sangtam holds a Master’s and an M.Phil degree in International Relations, a Master’s in Political Science, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science.
