Prof. Ravni Thakur
Professor of Chinese Studies, Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi
She has BA honours from JNU (1979-82 and been a scholarship student to the Language Institute Beijing(1982-83) and at the Beijing University (1983-84). She has worked for IBM China and the Associated Press China. She has a M.A. in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, 1985 and worked as a Research Associate on UNDP projects 1985-1989. She has a Ph.D. from the Sinology Institute, University of Leiden 1989-93. She has taught at the INALCO, Sorbonne , 1992-94. She has also been Professor for Chinese Studies at the Jamia Millia Islamia 2012-3and Fellow of the Delhi Policy Group 2007-2014. She has been a visiting Professor at the BRICS Policy Research Institute in Rio Brazil 2015. She is a widely published author and commentator and has lectured extensively across universities and presented papers in international conferences in her field. Her latest book titled China in the 21st Century: Issues and Challenges was published in 2023 and is available on Amazon. She has also worked as an interpreter for high level conferences such as BRICS and SCO meets and as a consultant with private businesses. Prof. Thakur speaks good Chinese and French.
