Dr. Bali Deepak is a Professor of Chinese Studies at the Centre for Chinese and Southeast Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India. A distinguished scholar in the field of Sino-Indian relations and Chinese civilization and culture, Dr. Deepak has been the recipient of several prestigious fellowships and awards, including the Nehru and Asia Fellowship and the India-China Cultural Exchange Fellowship, which supported his doctoral and advanced studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Peking University, respectively. His most recent work, Rising India and China: Strategic Rivalry in the Himalayas and the Indo-Pacific (two volumes), was published by Springer Nature’s Palgrave Macmillan in 2025, contributing significant insights into contemporary geopolitical dynamics in Asia. In addition to his academic research, Dr. Deepak is a prolific translator, having brought key Chinese philosophical and literary works into Hindi and English. His notable translations include China and India: Dialogues of Civilizations (Pentagon Press, 2021; Hindi edition: Prakashan Sansthan, 2021), The Four Books (Hindi edition, National Book Trust, 2018), Core Values of Chinese Civilization (Prakashan Sansthan, 2018), and Chinese Poetry: 1100 BC to 1400 AD (Prakashan Sansthan, 2011) for which he was awarded the Special Book Prize of China.
