• Xi Jinping Held Talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping met Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Beijing, where both leaders discussed strengthening the China-Jordan strategic partnership and expanding cooperation across various sectors. Xi said the two countries should deepen collaboration in areas including trade, infrastructure, transportation, mining, digital economy, artificial intelligence and green energy. He also called for greater exchanges in education, culture, science and technology, and tourism. Xi highlighted China’s support for Jordan’s sovereignty, security and development interests, and expressed willingness to enhance cooperation through government, political and legislative channels. He also emphasised closer coordination between the two countries in international organisations, including the United Nations. King Abdullah II also added that Jordan values its strategic partnership with China and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in manufacturing, agriculture, technology, pharmaceuticals, culture and education. He reaffirmed Jordan’s support for the one-China policy and welcomed greater Chinese investment. The two sides signed multiple cooperation documents covering areas such as economy and trade, industrial supply chains, diplomacy and justice, while issuing a joint statement to deepen bilateral ties further.
  
  
• Wang Huning Meets U.S. Delegates to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties: China’s top political advisor Wang Huning met with U.S. delegates attending the third China-U.S. Track 1.5 Dialogue in Beijing, calling for efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and manage differences. Wang said China is ready to work with the United States to implement the consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump during their meeting in May. He stressed the need for both sides to develop a correct understanding of each other, respect core interests, expand practical cooperation and properly manage differences. The U.S. delegates said China-U.S. relations are at an important juncture and highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive relationship between the two heads of state. They expressed support for building a constructive relationship based on strategic stability and called for greater cooperation between businesses and expanded people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The U.S. side also emphasised the need to address risks associated with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and said stronger cooperation could benefit both countries and the wider international community.
  
  
• China Expands Use of AI and Digital Tools for Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management: China is increasingly integrating digital platforms, artificial intelligence and drones into its emergency management system to improve risk detection, decision-making and disaster response, according to frontline officials. At a State Council Information Office briefing, officials highlighted how local authorities are using technology to strengthen flood control and safety supervision. In Tianjin, authorities have developed an intelligent flood-control platform covering 1,415 high-risk locations. The system combines data on flooding, rainfall, emergency resources and response plans, allowing authorities to issue early warnings and coordinate evacuations. The platform was used alongside drones and communication equipment during the 2025 Juhe River flooding to monitor conditions and support timely evacuation efforts. In Yiwu, Zhejiang province, the “Yiwu safety brain” platform uses AI to monitor around 220,000 businesses and facilities, identifying safety risks and issuing warnings. Officials said AI applications have helped reduce unsafe operations in certain areas by more than 70 per cent. Authorities said China plans to further expand the use of AI and other technologies during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) to improve grassroots emergency management and risk prevention.
  
  
• Wang Huning Urges CPPCC Members to Support Rural Modernisation and Economic Development: China’s top political advisor Wang Huning called on members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to contribute ideas and efforts toward advancing agricultural and rural modernisation, as well as urban development. Wang, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the body’s Chairpersons Council. Wang urged political advisors to align their work with the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and contribute to sustaining economic growth. He emphasised that CPPCC members should focus on the Party and country’s key tasks while carrying out their responsibilities. Wang also highlighted the role of organisations including the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the China Zhi Gong Party in strengthening connections with overseas Chinese communities. During the meeting, the CPPCC National Committee’s work report for the first half of 2026 was reviewed and approved. The report will be presented at the upcoming session of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee later this month.
  
  
• China Expands Family Doctor Services to Strengthen Primary Healthcare: China’s National Health Commission and other health authorities have introduced new measures to further expand family doctor contracted services and strengthen primary healthcare delivery. The plan requires more doctors at grassroots institutions, including specialists in internal medicine, paediatrics, and traditional Chinese medicine, to provide family doctor services by the end of 2026. Under the new measures, doctors from higher-level hospitals who are assigned to primary institutions for over one year will also be encouraged to participate in family doctor services from 2027. The policy aims to promote a first-contact healthcare system, where residents seek initial consultations from family doctors and receive referrals to specialists when necessary. The expanded services will cover not only chronic disease management but also infectious disease prevention, vaccination support, health education and follow-up care. Special attention will be given to elderly people, children, pregnant women and other key groups, with contracts promoted through local grassroots healthcare institutions. Authorities also called for better coordination between hospitals at different levels, improved monitoring of service quality and resident satisfaction surveys to enhance the effectiveness of family doctor programs.

The post highlighted how the robot athlete village includes facilities for storage, maintenance, charging and battery management, designed to support robots participating in the competition. The post showcased the event's technological infrastructure, including repair stations, safety monitoring systems, and battery facilities that enable efficient robot maintenance and operation. It also underscored how robots are managed through identification systems and specialised support arrangements. Many Weibo users expressed excitement over the rapid development of humanoid robot technology. One user commented, “It looks awesome. I’m looking forward to the robot home.” Another said, “Robots are so powerful now.” Other users praised China’s advancements in science and technology, saying that the progress of intelligent robots demonstrated the country’s growing technological capabilities. Some users humorously speculated that robot versions of events like the Asian Games or Olympics could emerge in the future. Global Times Discusses China-India Boundary Talks and Prospects for Bilateral Stability: An article in Global Times reported that China and India are scheduled to hold the 25th round of talks between special representatives on the boundary question in Beijing on August 25, with discussions expected to focus on border issues, bilateral relations, and regional and international developments. The article stated that China’s Foreign Ministry said the meeting will be co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. It highlighted that the talks serve as an important mechanism for communication and negotiations on the boundary question. The article also noted that the previous round, held in New Delhi in August 2025, saw both sides exchange views on border issues and reach several common understandings. Citing Chinese experts, it said the continuation of the talks reflects efforts to steadily manage border differences and move bilateral relations toward greater stability. It also cited remarks by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who emphasised that peace and tranquillity along the border are essential for improving ties with China.
