- China Issues Alerts as Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds Sweep Multiple Regions: China’s Meteorological Administration has issued fresh alerts as heavy rainfall and strong winds impact large swathes of the country. On September 3, torrential downpours were recorded in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Hubei, with forecasts warning of continued rainfall until September 6. Northeastern Sichuan, central Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, and parts of Shanxi are expected to face heavy to torrential rain, raising risks of floods and landslides. Some areas may also see thunderstorms, hail, and sudden strong winds. Adding to the challenge, a strong cold front is sweeping across northern China from Xinjiang to Shaanxi. Between September 4–5, temperatures in parts of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, and Shaanxi are predicted to drop by 6–8°C, accompanied by winds of 5–7 force and gusts reaching up to 12 in mountain passes. The Central Meteorological Observatory has maintained a blue alert for strong winds. Authorities have also cautioned about blowing sand and dust in Xinjiang, Gansu, and Inner Mongolia. Meanwhile, Typhoon Pipa in the East China Sea is under close monitoring for potential impact, adding to the country’s weather concerns.
- China Launches SCO Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Center: China inaugurated the China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Center in Qingdao’s SCO Demonstration Zone, Shandong. The center aims to strengthen collaborative innovation across SCO member states, serving as a hub for international cooperation in science and technology. Designed with the vision of “based in Shandong, radiating nationwide, and facing the SCO,” the center will operate under a “center + domestic hub + international node” framework. Its mandate includes fostering academic exchanges, advancing joint R&D, facilitating international technology transfer, and building an SCO-focused think tank. These initiatives are expected to deepen scientific and technological ties among member countries while driving industrial development and two-way innovation flows. At the launch ceremony, 10 major international projects were unveiled, spanning critical areas such as biomedicine, advanced equipment manufacturing, and modern agriculture. The move highlights China’s ambition to position the SCO Demonstration Zone as a global cooperation platform. As the only national platform dedicated to local economic and trade cooperation with SCO nations, the zone has evolved into a hub for cultural exchange, resource integration, and international collaboration, embodying the spirit of shared development.
- Beijing Marks 80th Anniversary of Victory in Anti-Japanese War with Parade and Futuristic Weapons: Beijing’s Tiananmen Square witnessed a historic commemoration on September 3, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech, paying tribute to martyrs, veterans, and international allies while urging nations to uphold peace and prevent the recurrence of past tragedies. He stressed that China, unafraid of hardship and self-reliant, will continue its path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and contribute to global development. The grand event featured an 80-gun salute, flag-raising ceremony, and a military parade with 45 formations showcasing China’s latest defense capabilities. Songs from the wartime era echoed across the square, while 80,000 doves and balloons symbolized peace and renewal. Over 60 foreign leaders and dignitaries attended the event, underscoring its global resonance. China’s V-Day parade also surprised with the debut of advanced weaponry, led by the J-35 carrier-based stealth fighter. Designed for both ski-jump and catapult carriers, the J-35 represents a leap in China’s naval aviation, emphasizing stealth and long-range operations. Other breakthroughs included the twin-seat J-20S for manned-unmanned teaming, J-15DT for catapult launches, and the Y-20 transport aircraft with indigenous engines, showcasing China’s rapidly advancing aerospace ambitions.
- China Launches Three-Year Campaign to Curb Industrial Product Safety Risks: The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has unveiled a sweeping three-year campaign (2025–2027) to tackle quality and safety risks in key industrial products. The initiative, outlined in the newly released Three-Year Action Plan, focuses on 84 high-risk products across 23 categories, including fire protection equipment, building insulation materials, and electric bicycles items closely tied to public safety. The plan emphasizes strict source control, including tighter supervision of production licenses and mandatory certification processes. Enterprises will be required to establish quality management systems, appoint dedicated safety officers, and conduct self-inspections to identify and rectify potential hazards. Authorities will carry out nationwide spot checks, create a database of manufacturers, and enforce accountability for substandard products in both production and distribution. To enhance oversight, SAMR will develop a traceability system, implement risk-based supervision, and integrate intelligent monitoring methods, particularly for online sales platforms. The campaign also encourages industry self-regulation, public education, and defective product recalls. By combining technical support with stricter enforcement, the initiative aims to boost product quality, safeguard lives and property, and strengthen China’s industrial brand competitiveness.
- China Launches Recruitment Drive Under “Hundred Days, Ten Million Jobs” Campaign: Beijing has rolled out a major push to boost employment with the “Hundred Days, Ten Million Recruitment” campaign, which from September 1 to 7 is hosting four online industry-specific recruitment sessions. Chinese College Students Stir Social Media with Patriotic Chants at Tiananmen Square: Following the 80th anniversary commemoration of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Tiananmen Square became the stage for a remarkable show of patriotism. A 3,000-member choir representing 40 universities had performed during the official event, but even after the program ended, students spontaneously raised their voices again. INDIA WATCH
Guancha Article Questions ASML’s India Move: ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet’s pledge to support India’s semiconductor ambitions has stirred debate in Chinese media. Speaking at the India Semiconductor Summit in New Delhi, Fouquet said ASML aims to collaborate with Indian firms, providing advanced lithography solutions and talent development. He stressed that India’s maturing industry and strong government backing could inject new vitality into the global chip supply chain. However, an article in Guancha has cast doubt on the optimism of ASML. The author has argued that Modi’s renewed “semiconductor strategy” remains subsidy-driven, luring foreign players without fostering domestic knowledge accumulation. He warned that without a local ecosystem or strong market, even billions in subsidies will not attract leading global firms. Citing Foxconn and Tata’s limited progress, he stressed that India’s reliance on external expertise risks repeating past failures. Guancha also noted India’s geopolitical motive: positioning itself as an alternative to China amid U.S. trade tensions. It highlighted a paradox: India hopes to replace China in the “China + 1” strategy while still needing access to China’s supply chains.
