Weibo Users Welcome MIIT Crackdown on App Redirects and Pop-Up Ads: A post with the hashtag #MIITCracksDownOnAppRedirects# is going viral on Weibo after the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) directed internet platforms and smart terminal companies to standardize app information windows and prohibit illegal redirects. The move follows user complaints that some apps, particularly during shopping promotions, used splash screens, pop-ups, and highly sensitive “shake” functions to induce accidental clicks. MIIT has directed companies to conduct self-inspections, remove non-compliant designs, and establish monitoring mechanisms. Many users complained that unwanted redirects have become a persistent problem across major apps. One user remarked that “the fastest way to open Taobao is to open Weibo,” suggesting that redirects have become routine. Another user stated that similar crackdowns had occurred years ago but failed to produce lasting improvements. Some users argued that they are often “redirected to shopping platforms without realizing it”. Several other users shared experiences of being redirected from apps such as Baidu, Weibo, and Ezviz, while another user criticized smartphone manufacturers for making it difficult to block redirects through their own browsers. A few users noted that they had deleted shopping apps altogether to avoid deceptive advertising practices.

Finance Sina Highlights Capital Outflows, Energy Dependence and Reform Gaps in India’s Economy: An article in Finance Sina discussed the economic challenges facing India and a decline in foreign investment despite the country remaining one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies. The article noted that overseas securities investment institutions have sold approximately US$29.5 billion worth of Indian stocks this year, significantly exceeding last year’s total foreign portfolio outflows. The article argued that weakening domestic demand, sluggish investment, rising energy costs and cautious global capital are diminishing India’s appeal to foreign investors despite its strong growth performance. It highlighted that India remains heavily dependent on imported crude oil, with more than 85 percent of its oil requirements sourced from abroad, making the economy vulnerable to rising global energy prices. According to the article, capital outflows and higher oil prices have also placed pressure on the Indian rupee, contributing to inflationary risks. The article further emphasized concerns over the pace of economic reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term. It stated that only two of 30 major reform initiatives have been completed in nearly two years, with limited progress in areas such as land acquisition, labor regulations, judicial efficiency, and infrastructure modernization. The article also warned that India risks falling behind in the global artificial intelligence race, noting that the country lacks indigenous large-scale AI models and could become primarily a consumer rather than a creator of advanced AI technologies.
