  • China Rejects G7 Chair’s Summary, Denounces Political Bias and Trade Distortion: The Chinese Embassy in Canada has strongly rejected the G7 Summit Chair’s Summary issued by Canada, which currently holds the rotating G7 presidency. In a formal statement, the embassy criticized the summary for disregarding objective facts, misrepresenting China’s position, and politicizing China-related issues through unfounded accusations and interference in China’s internal affairs. A spokesperson for the embassy emphasized that China’s economic development is grounded in adherence to international trade rules and the principles of a market economy. “China’s growth is driven by its vast domestic market, a complete industrial ecosystem, a large and skilled labor force, and robust market competition,” the spokesperson said. “Those who resort to arbitrary tariffs, unilateral trade pressure, and the politicization of economic issues are the ones truly distorting the global market and undermining the multilateral trading system.” On regional security, the spokesperson reaffirmed China’s consistent stance of addressing disputes through dialogue and negotiation with directly concerned parties, underscoring Beijing’s commitment to peaceful resolution and stability.

  • China Focuses on Industrial Innovation and Platform Economy Governance: Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing has underscored the urgency of advancing industrial innovation and strengthening governance of the platform economy to support high-quality development. During a recent inspection tour in Guangdong Province, Zhang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the strategic integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial progress. Zhang called for a more refined governance framework to ensure the platform economy evolves within a fair, transparent, and orderly environment. He highlighted the need to leverage innovation as a catalyst for breakthroughs in critical core technologies, creating a virtuous cycle in which technological advancements drive industrial upgrading. To sustain healthy growth in the sector, Zhang advocated for the modernization of regulatory systems governing platform rules, algorithms, pricing structures, and livestreaming commerce. He also stressed the importance of enhanced oversight and the strict enforcement of measures to curb irrational and excessive competition.

  • China Calls for Urgent De-escalation in Middle East Amid Escalating Tensions: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for immediate de-escalation in the Middle East, warning against further deterioration of the regional situation. His remarks were made during a meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana. Expressing deep concern over the latest spike in tensions—particularly in light of Israel’s recent military actions against Iran—President Xi reaffirmed China’s firm opposition to any moves that violate the sovereignty, security, or territorial integrity of other nations. He stressed that military conflict is not a viable path to resolution and urged all parties to act in the interest of regional peace and global stability. Xi reiterated China’s readiness to work constructively with the international community to help restore calm and promote lasting peace in the Middle East.

  • China Releases High-Resolution Grassland Map of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau: China has unveiled a detailed vegetation map of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Developed at a high-resolution 1:500,000 scale, the map was led by Professor Wang Yanfen from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and combines extensive fieldwork with multi-source remote sensing data to accurately chart plant formations across the ecologically fragile region known as the “roof of the world.” Drawing from insights gained during the 2017 scientific expedition, the map identifies 62 major grassland types and captures notable shifts in vegetation patterns over the past four decades. One key finding is the expansion of alpine meadows, vegetation adapted to cold, moist environments, which now make up 69% of the plateau’s grasslands, up from 50%, signaling a clear trend of regional warming and wetting. The research integrated cutting-edge methods, including in-situ observations, satellite imagery, and AI-driven analysis, to link vegetation dynamics with environmental conditions.

  • China's Green Energy Market Hits Record Trading Volume: China’s green electricity trading volume surpassed 220 billion kilowatt-hours in the first five months of 2024, representing a nearly 50% year-on-year increase. The surge, highlighted at a recent industry forum, reflects the country’s expanding new energy capacity and its growing influence in the national power market. According to the China Electricity Council, electricity generated from new energy sources—such as wind and solar—is playing an increasingly competitive role in market-based power trading. So far in 2024, over 1 trillion kilowatt-hours of new energy electricity have been traded through market mechanisms, accounting for 55% of total new energy output. This growth marks a broader shift toward a market-driven electricity allocation system in China. Since 2016, the country’s market-oriented electricity trading volume has jumped from 1.1 trillion to 6.2 trillion kilowatt-hours, raising its share of total electricity consumption from 17% to 63%—a testament to the rapid transformation of China’s energy landscape.
