Xi Jinping’s domestic visits during the First Half (H1) of 2025 reflected an intensive final-year inspection campaign as China approached the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan (FYP). The frequent visits across provinces, focusing on diverse policy priorities, particularly in areas such as industrial development and technological innovation, suggested his emphasis on reviewing the progress under the 14th FYP targets. Furthermore, the higher number of rural visits in H1 2025 highlighted the importance of rural revitalisation initiatives.

In contrast, Xi Jinping’s domestic visits during the First Half (H1) of 2026 were largely limited to urban centres, indicating reduced provincial outreach. As China adopted the new 15th FYP, Xi placed a clear emphasis on educational institutions and innovation hubs. The steady prioritisation of technological innovation across both FYPs reflected his efforts to advance high-tech modernisation and position China as a global leader in artificial intelligence by 2030.

Broadly, this infographic does not only track the frequency of Xi Jinping’s domestic visits but also underscores a strategic shift in China’s policy priorities. The transition builds upon the achievements of the previous FYP and aligns with China’s long-term development goals, demonstrating how the underlying patterns of Xi’s visits reflect evolving governance priorities across different developmental phases.
